With Halloween over and November underway, it’s time to turn our attention to the most wonderful time of the year…the fall and winter holidays! Now, I’m very strict about waiting until after Thanksgiving to officially kick off my Christmas season, but I realized that if I intend to be decorating a tree the Saturday after Thanksgiving, I better start thinking about what I’m going to decorate said tree with. I think Phil and I have less than 20 ornaments and very few other decorations…and I insist on decking the halls!
We started talking through different options…and there is, of course, the popcorn garland, inexpensive lights, paper snowflakes, and the like. But how do you pull off a nativity scene with very little money on hand for decorating expenses?
Another issue facing our apartment is an excess of newspapers cluttering many of the surfaces in the kitchen, dining room, and living room. We receive the paper three days a week (which apparently is far too often), and much of this paper is going almost complete untouched.
How can we solve this two great issues facing us at such a critical moment in our lives–our first Christmas together????
The answer is simple. Paper. Mache. Ornaments. What could be better than making cute little ornamenets and such together? The cost is minimal…some paint, wire, and a few little decorative items. The time together in a shared activity would be incredibly valuable. And, no more newspapers! It’s an all around win in my mind. Watch for pictures of our Christmas creations (hopefully) coming soon!
